Welcome to the Juneau

Chamber of Commerce

    Mission Statement

The Juneau Chamber of Commerce supports economic diversity, encourages entrepreneurship, and endorses responsible, sustainable development to maintain Juneau’s high quality of life while advocating economic vitality for all of Alaska.

Purpose
The purpose of the Juneau Chamber of Commerce is to develop, advance and promote the economic, industrial, commercial, professional, cultural and civic welfare of the Juneau area. The objective is to improve the business climate and make this community more prosperous, more ecologically attractive and more desirable as a place to work and live.
In these pursuits, the Chamber seeks to provide leadership for political action on business issues and a forum for the exchange of member ideas.
In addition to the Board of Directors the Juneau Chamber of Commerce has, as its members, hundreds of diverse businesses organizations and individuals dedicated to improving and sustaining Juneau’s economy.
These dedicated civic leaders are part of a dynamic volunteer network that incorporates the Juneau Chamber’s nine committees, works with regulatory agencies, state, and local government, and business professionals in maintaining Juneau’s high quality of life and economic diversity.
Please call or stop by if you have any questions or are interested in learning more about the Chamber of Commerce. We have various resources on hand, including Chamber maps, directories, relocation packets, and membership forms.

            Priorities
  • The Business Personal Property Tax-  through the work of the chamber and supportive assembly members on this issue over the last few years, now about 2,500 business out of 2,800 are exempted from this tax and all businesses subject to this tax are paying less.
We lobbied for, but did not succeed in obtaining reduced electrical costs for all residents and businesses during our "electricity crisis" from the CBJ emergency funds (that were not used by the most vulnerable). We encouraged the city not to ask for State or Federal funding. We focused on LOCAL funding. The amount we requested would have also benefited other communities by reducing their PCE amounts. While we were disappointed in the outcome of this effort, we are proud of the fact that our Chamber and all businesses helped make Juneau
"number one in the world" in energy conservation during our short-term crisis.
  • We have worked energetically to improve access to and from the capital city with support on both the Juneau Access Road and the Alaska Marine Highway.
  • Advocates for the Lynn Canal Highway. We believe that the road will be an incredible benefit to our state, our region's economy and the future of Juneau as Alaska's Capital City.
  • We actively support the Alaska Committee. The Juneau Chamber acts as their administrative arm.
  • We lobbied for and supported the CBJ Downtown Transit Center and Parking Garage.
  •  We fought and will continue to fight side by side with Alaska Miners to protect their jobs and the future of responsible mining in Alaska.
  • We support the North Douglas Crossing and West Douglas Development activities.
  • Cruise Ship Industry- Most recently we wrote a resolution asking the CBJ to join us in urging the 2009 Alaska State Legislators to modify, based on science the standards governing the discharge of cruise ship waste water.
